CE ACCREDITATION

The ACZM is a registered veterinary specialty college under the jurisdiction of the AVMA. The ACZM strives to advance the field of zoological medicine through medical research and the dissemination of information. As such, the ACZM supports scientific conferences and professional meetings. In order to approve continuing education (CE) for conference attendees, many state veterinary licensing agencies require sponsorship by the AVMA or its affiliates such as the ACZM.

ACZM SPONSORSHIP OF CE CREDITS AT A CONFERENCE OF MEETING


1. In order for the ACZM to sponsor CE credits at a conference or meeting, the following items are requested.


a. A signed MOU between the organization hosting or sponsoring the meeting (CE Provider) and the ACZM. MOUs will be on a three (3)-year rotation.


b. A written request submitted to the Executive Administrative Assistant sent no later than three (3) months prior to the conference.


c. The organization must supply a list of the scientific sessions being held during the conference, the speakers’ names, degrees, affiliations, titles of talks, and areas of expertise, in advance of the conference. The Secretary will review the scientific session to determine the number of credit hours that qualify for credit.


d. A per credit hour fee will be paid to the ACZM by the organization requesting ACZM sponsorship of CE credits.


e. ACZM sponsorship of CE credits should be acknowledged in the following locations:


i. conference proceedings


ii. CE forms


iii. during the opening session and/or the conference banquet


iv. in the registration material


v. on the conference website


f. The written acknowledgment in the proceedings should include the ACZM logo and the following statement:

2. Assignment of CE credits


a. The CE provider shall determine and identify as “approved” only those CE presentations that meet the following standards:


i. The content of the courses must be relevant to the practice of veterinary medicine.


ii. CE courses with content that is primarily intended to endorse the use/sale of a commercial product or service shall not be approved for CE.


b. CE units must be determined by the CE provider in advance of the conference or meeting.


i. The CE provider shall assign one (1) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) for each hour of veterinary medical education (50 minutes of instruction and a 10-minute break).


ii. The CE provider shall assign one (1) CEU for each hour of wet lab experience.


iii. The ACZM reserves the right to review the assignment of CE credits by the CE Provider.


3. CE certificates


a. Upon completion of the conference, the CE Provider will issue a record of verification of attendance to the participants containing the following information:


i. Name of participant.


ii. Conference designation including host institution, location, and dates.


iii. ACZM name and logo.


iv. v. Name of statutorily approved CE sponsor (American College of Zoological Medicine).


vi. Number of CE credits earned.


vii. Maximum CE credits attainable.


viii. Signature of the President or Secretary of the ACZM.


4. Withdrawal of approval for sponsorship of CE credits.


a. The ACZM may withdraw its approval for sponsorship of the CE Provider’s CE credits for good cause which includes, but is not limited to, the following:


i. Any material misrepresentation of fact by the CE Provider in the information submitted to ACZM.


ii. Failure to comply with ACZM CE sponsorship requirements.


b. The ACZM may withdraw its approval for sponsorship of the CE Provider’s CE credits after giving the CE Provider written notice setting forth its reasons for withdrawal and giving the CE Provider a reasonable opportunity of up to 60 days to provide specific concerns about the withdrawal of ACZM CE sponsorship approval to the ACZM President or his/her designee(s).
